Hmmm...how to tell this........well for most of my adult life I've had long hair...not sure what that has to do with it but when I was a kid my parent had this thing for shaving heads ....( my brother and I) . Now the people that know me think I look like an artist (whatever that means) The people that don't know me have a very strong opinion to the contrary. Let me give you an example or two.

I lived in a little town for 15 or so years and recently moved (3yrs ago ..almost set up lol). The twon was basically bedroom/retirement until they found a hook ...Anyway on the street I lived on most of the younger folk around my age worked during the day. Me on the other hand I worked too but not 9-5 more like 10:30/noon-ish til dark or in doors til 2 -3 am 7days a week. Now because I'm self employed I don't have to do rush hour etc.... so when I do venture out it was usually late in the afternoon ( to get smokes food sorts thing) Anyway one night late lol I was working in the studio which happens to be about 15ft from the neighbour's wall. At the time I was working on some larger than life BxW historical murals. The tunes were blasting, I was grooving and getting lots done...when there is a knock on the door. It opens (because I didn't have it locked lol) and in walks my very pissed and half asleep neighbour the cop! He says "whats all the noise about, don't you know people have to work in the morning? What are you doing anyway?" I just turned and pointed to my easel that had an 8x12 ft almost complete mural on it. He looked at it...turned to me and said "Sorry" and then just left! Hmmm I says to myself...I never got another speeding ticket , pulled over or even looked at sideways for the rest of the time he lived there!
Just before I moved, I was talking to one of the neighbours from a block or so away asked me what I did for a living I said "I'm an artist". She says well that makes sence...most people in town think your a drug dealer because you have long hair, drive a customized truck and never seem to go to work! Roflmao!!! Now thats funny or so I thought! Which brings me to the early spring of 2011

It was a nice day the snow was almost gone and for giggles I figured I'd walk the 10 or so blocks to the post office to pick up the mail ( I took my camera just in case I saw something interesting. SO about halfway there I saw these two kids riding around on a very beat up looking bike with half flat tires. As I got closer I said to them " You guys should put some air in your tires or your going to wreck them" they said something back and that was that. Now I have a bike that my son used to ride when he was little and I figured that since its just been sitting for years those kids could get more use out of it than  my son whom I'm sure wouldn't mind. Maybe if those kids are still there on my way back I'll give them the bike!
On my return to where the kids were they were acting kinda strange and didn't respond to a word I said. Hmmm!
The next day (longer story short) I am called by one of the shops I have art in and told to come pick up my stuff and don't come back. It seems that one of their employees has a personality conflict with me. ( thats funny because there is only one and I get along with them very well or so I thought) Turns out that one of the kids grandparents was sitting on the deck watching as I walked by and thought that I had offered to sell the kids "pills" out of my black bag ( lol that I had my camera in ) because I was a long hair (mid 40's) drove a "Flashy" truck, never seemed to go to work, and was only around town at odd hours ( sometimes I smoke a lot and sometimes not, that sorta dictates when I go out lol). Ultimately I learned all this from a guy who I didn't really know and out of the blue was promising to kick my ass for selling pills to his nephew. So in between his threats I was able to piece it together for him lol AND he knew I was an artist!
What makes this so funny is that for the previous couple of weeks my picture was in the paper a few times as I was working on a historical mural for the community museum and wondered how these people could make that connection. Is it possible to keep to low a profile and look to much like an artist?
